Program Notes

In this instance, the term “wicca” is used as a noun, meaning witch or sorcerer. More specifically, someone practicing witchcraft, especially benevolent, nature-oriented practices derived from pre-Christian religions. Once again, Casey Cangelosi uses very different methods of playing percussion instruments, such as scraping, thumb rolling, and rolling on two drums with one stick. The sheer speed and nearly impossible rhythms make this piece one of the most daunting in the world of multiple percussion.
