Description

Black Sands is the title track of the album of the same name, made by the artist Bonobo. The work starts very simplistically and builds to a strong climax, after which the music slowly 'fades away' again. The clarinet plays a central and solo role in the whole, supported by several instruments throughout the piece. It is precisely the collaboration between percussion and wind and string instruments that gives this work its intimate atmosphere and character. The often 'woody' sound of a mallet ensemble supplemented with untuned percussion is mixed with the warm sounds of clarinet, trombone, trumpet, tenor saxophone and strings. This whole and the atmosphere and style of the work together create a unique sound. The work lends itself particularly well to collaborations between percussion groups and other art forms. For example, visual arts such as dance and animation, film images and/or photo collages and other forms of art could be a nice addition to this work. It is up to you to decide whether this work is performed in collaboration with others, or purely musically.
