Program Notes
This neoclassical music was inspired by the fine trio sonatas of European Baroque composer Archangelo Corelli. It is written for three timpanists, four drums each. Other influences include K. Penderecki's "Pittsburgh Overture" that I was part of a recording for Deutsche Grammophon in the Eastman Wind Ensemble, Dr. Donald Hunsberger, conductor, and Prof. John Beck percussion instructor. As I recall, Penderecki's music calls for twelve timpani, three players, performing a twelve tone row in the music. I got to play four of the timpani, simply beautiful drums at Eastman.
