This marimba ensemble quartet was conducted in performance by the composer in Michelsen Concert Hall in the Fine Arts Center at the University of Wisconsin - Stevens Point. It was composed in an apartment on the south side of Cambridge, Ohio, in 1978, in response to a contest run by the Percussive Arts Society. As usual with composition contests, I found it more expedient to just write the piece and publish it myself, as I tend to write fast. It is suggested by chorales of Johann Sebastian Bach, with a pattern approach to composition.
