Description

Tympanum is a concerto for timpani and wind orchestra. In this concerto for four timpani and band, the soloist makes use of his entire technical resources to tackle what is a technically demanding score, offering many moments of true virtuosity. The dialogue between the soloist and the band is a constant throughout the work. The composer wishes us to see this percussion instrument not only from a rhythmic and percussive point of view, but also in terms of melody and colour. He includes sound and timbre effects resulting from the enormous evolution in the instrument’s possibilities. Nowadays we have resources within our reach that were unthinkable a few years ago.
