Wolfgang Sonntag began his musical career as a child, teaching hemself to play the [[flute]], [[clarinet]] and [[drum set]] / [[percussion]] in a wind band. After his school-days he spent four years playing [[clarinet]] and big-band drums with the military band "Marinemusikkorps Nordsee". He took the state-certified music teachers' exam after studying in Bremen Conservatory. Since 1974 Wolfgang Sonntag has worked at the music schools in Bremen and Verden as a percussion and clarinet teacher. In 1975 he became first percussionist of the Philharmonische Staatsorchester in Bremen.
