Wibrand van Norel was born in Doornspijk. At a young age, he was taken by his father to the drum corps of the time. They attended not only many rehearsals but also competitions, festivals, and concerts. He began his musical career at Excelsior Oostendorp, where he learned the basics of percussion. In 1990, he began studying classical percussion in the preparatory program at the Conservatory in Zwolle, after which he graduated as a Music Teacher in 1997. During his studies, he played in the Orchestra of the East, the Radio Chamber Orchestra, the Netherlands Wind Ensemble, the National Percussion Ensemble, and the Northern Percussion Ensemble, among others, and served temporarily as a BBT member with the Mounted Weapons Trumpet Corps. Since 2016, Wibrand has been affiliated with CultuurKust as music coordinator. He is also the author of many compositions written for percussion ensembles; he was, in fact, the 'court composer' of the B-Percussion Ensemble of the Elspeets Fanfare Corps , where he served as conductor for many years. | |||
