Darrien Spicak is a music educator, performer, and composer who is currently the Assistant Percussion Director for Independence High School in Frisco, Texas. Darrien began composing by assisting his professor, Dr. Weber, with arranging marching percussion for MSU halftime shows. This culminated in Darrien designing an indoor percussion ensemble which won first place in the 2019 Taiwan World Percussion Championships in Taipei, Taiwan. While studying performance at TCU, he began taking composition lessons with Dr. Martin Blessinger, which gave him the avenue to pursue more concert-oriented percussion ensembles. In the marching arts, Darrien performed with the Madison Scouts Drum and Bugle Corps, and the Matrix World Percussion Ensemble. Since 2019, he has been a bass drum instructor for the Legends Drum and Bugle Corps, receiving the high percussion award at the 2019 DCI Open Class Championships. In addition to these experiences, Darrien has begun arranging marching percussion in various capacities for different high school percussion programs.
