[[Octatonic Variations]] was commissioned by the Dutch international music publisher "[[Dutch Music Partners]]" for their new and innovative line of percussion music 2010. I decided to write a piece based on the three octatonic scales existing in contemporary western music and using harmonies these scales bring with them. The piece is written for a percussion group of eight players with a high level of musical; and technical abilties. The piece is challenging, chiegly because of its musical style which is not used very often in music written for percussion group and also because all eight parts are very difficult, both in musical terms as technical.
