Gert Bomhof was introduced to percussion at a young age, and played as an amateur musician in various wind bands. After secondary school education, Gert Bomhof began his studies at the Conservatory of Arnhem, which resulted in a percussion diploma in 1978. The following year he also obtained his conductor's certificate for wind and fanfare band.
