Kalman Cherry, principal timpanist, has held this position with the Dallas Symphony since 1958. He graduated from the Curtis Institute of Music and, before moving to Texas, held teaching positions with the Settlement Music School in Philadelphia and the Philadelphia Musical Academy. At the Dallas Symphony, Cherry served for many years on the board of governors of the Dallas Symphony Association. For seven years, Cherry served as editor of "Focus on Timpani" for Percussive Notes Magazine. He currently teaches at Southern Methodist University. Kalman Cherry, principal timpanist, has held this position with the Dallas Symphony since 1958. He graduated from the Curtis Institute of Music and, before moving to Texas, held teaching positions with the Settlement Music School in Philadelphia and the Philadelphia Musical Academy. At the Dallas Symphony, Cherry served for many years on the board of governors of the Dallas Symphony Association. For seven years, Cherry served as editor of "Focus on Timpani" for Percussive Notes Magazine. He currently teaches at Southern Methodist University. Cherry is married to Dallas Symphony violinist Janet Cherry.[1]
