== Description ==
The concept of 'ZEITGEIST' comes from the German philosopher Johann Gottfried von Shepherd. It is the thinking and acting of our society and politics during a certain time period. The starting point of this composition is my concern about the current Zeitgeist: A time when polarization and populism on the one hand and reason and mutual understanding on the other hand, are fighting for priority. We already see what can happen when a society embarks on this slippery slope. The composition expresses the 'Zeitgeist' as follows:
The exhibition begins as a warning.
The 3 main themes are presented in fragments.
These leitmotifs - the building blocks of this composition are musical translations of Warning, Polarization and Reason.
In the 1st part, Polarization and Reason compete for priority, with the warning-motif sometimes clearly or subliminally present.
In part 2 we hear what polarization can lead to: social unrest, uprising and violence.
The 3rd part expresses the hope that Reason and Tolerance will prevail and that we, despite our differences, can live together peacefully.
However, alertness is always required.
