He was at the University of Missouri at Kansas City – Conservatory of Music for nine years and has been at Missouri Western State University for 31 years. He is currently a Professor of Music and Director of Percussion Studies at Western. MWSU is located in St. Joseph, Missouri, the new home of the Kansas City Chiefs beginning the summer of 2010.

			Dr. Rogers holds five degrees, a BM and MM degree in Percussion Performance from the Univerity of Missouri at Kansas City – Conservatory of Music and three degrees from the University of Missouri at Kansas City – School of Education: MA in Adult and Continuing Education; Educational Specialist in Curriculum and Instruction; and a Doctorate of Philosophy in Education, Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis in curriculum and instruction, music and adult education.

			Dr. Rogers also holds three levels of Orff-Schulwerk certification (a methodology which includes using percussion, singing and movement to teach elementary students K-6). He has taught percussion technique to elementary teachers during their Orff training at Colorado State Univeristy, Arizona State University and the Univeristy of Missouri at Kansas City – Conservatory of Music.

			Since 2002, Dr. Rogers has received nine consecutive American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) awards for outstanding contributions in original compositions and current performance awards. In 2002 he was awarded the Governor’s Excellence in Teaching award (higher education) by Governor Bob Holden. Following are the awards Dr. Rogers has receved for outstanding teaching and noteworthy contributions made to Missouri Western State University: Jesse Lee Myers Excellence in Teaching (2002), Regents Distinguished Professor (2005) and Alumni Association Distinguished Faculty (2007). Between 1993 and 2003, Rogers was awarded nine Merit Awards by the Missouri Western State University Music Department. In 2009, the Northland Regional Chamber of Commerce honored Dr. Rogers with the Excellence in Higher Education award.

			Dr. Rogers has published five books for drummers. Three are published by Southern Music Company (San Antonio, TX) and two are published by PercMaster Publications. His most recent book, EIGHT RECITAL PIECES FOR DRUMSET, includes a solo CD recorded and produced by Dr. Rogers.

			Dr. Rogers is a very active performer and clinician. His activities have taken him to over half of the United States and on extended tours in Europe and the Far East. He served as music director and performed with the professional STICKS OF THUNDER, a percussion theater group. The Sticks group has performed two very successful nine-month runs at Kansas City’s Union Station and continues to perform for large corporate events, typically Fortune 500 company events.

			In 1984, in an innovative approach to teaching percussion in a small classroom experience, he established the Dr. Rogers School of Percussion in Kansas City’s Northland. His school’s enrollment of sixty students has resulted in middle school and high school percussion students consistently achieving high levels of musical success in their school’s art programs and in scholarship opportunities.
