He was born in Heidelberg, Germany, and came to the United States with his parents when he was 7. The family settled in Brooklyn, N.Y. and he began violin lessons at age 8.During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army's 28th Division Band.After discharge from the service, Mr. Raab attended the University of Michigan School of Music, and received both his Bachelor of Music and Master or Music degrees with distinction in violin.He became a faculty member of the University of Michigan School of Music, and taught violin there for eight years. He also was a member of the Stanley String Quartet and conductor of various civic orchestras. He performed regularly in chamber-music and solo recitals.
