			Since 1961, through a pioneer work in Brazil and in the USA, Jocy de Oliveira has utilized acoustic and electronic instruments, music - theater, installations, texts, graphics, video, audience, dance in an approach to an organic development of performance / composition works. She has composed and directed her 8 major operas and music - theater pieces which have been acclaimed through several productions in Brazil, USA and Germany.

			Master of Arts with major in music by Washington University, USA, she received a number of grants and awards such as Guggenheim Foundation, Rockfeller Foundation, Bogliasco Foundation, CAPS (New York Council on the Arts), Vitae and RioArte Foundations besides being elected life member of the "Academia Brasileira de Musica".

			Her music has been performed frequently in Brazil and abroad in such places as Bayerischer Rundfunk – Musica Viva, Munich, World Expo 2000 Hannover, Berliner Festspiele, Haus der Kulturen der Welt and Hebbel Theater in Berlin, Staatstheater Darmstadt, Festival Dresdner Tage der Zeitgenössische Musik, Global Ear, Dresden, Aspekte Festival - Salzburgo, Gulbenkian and Gaudeamus Foundation, Radio France, Hayden Planetarium, Carnegie Hall, and Brooklyn Academy in New York, New Music America and numerous festivals in the USA, Festival Musica Nova - Bellas Artes, Mexico, Teatro Avenida – Buenos Aires, as well as frequently theaters and festivals in Brazil (Rio de Janeiro, S. Paulo, Salvador, Belo Horizonte, Porto Alegre, Vitória, Brasilia, Florianópolis, Curitiba).

			In 2007, the International Festival of Campos do Jordão, S. Paulo, programmed an homage to her works with several chamber music, orchestra and opera presentations. In 2008 the Cultural Institute Oi Futuro, Rio de Janeiro programmed (from April 7th through May 25th) a huge retrospective of her works in the format of an exhibition / installation / performances of music, video, theater.

			As a pianist or composer she has recorded 22 discs released in Brazil, England, USA, Germany, Mexico. She recorded in Brazil and in the USA the major piano cycles of Messiaen (for Vox and Philips) she was soloist under the baton of Stravinsky and presented several first performances many of which have been written for her by composers such as Xenakis, Berio and Santoro.

			Author of four books published in Brazil and in the USA, she also conceived and produced videos internationally acclaimed.

			A Box with four DVDs compiling her six operas in seven productions (in Brazil and Germany) was released August 2008.<ref>http://www.jocydeoliveira.com/index_engl.html</ref>
