	Lóránt Hajdu was born in Bucharest, Romania, to a Hungarian family in 1937. In his early childhood they moved to Budapest, Hungary. He studied piano with Clara Chitz and composition with István Szelényi at the Bartók Béla Conservatory in Budapest.
