The work opens with a pithy theme in the toms, depicting the proud Conquistador. This theme is compositionally placed in changing, irregular time signatures. The conquistador comes to a lady, to whom he completely loses his heart. As a token of his love, he gives her a beautiful ring. The character of this lady is represented by means of a waltz. However, this ring turns out to contain demons, which appear at night. A very exciting passage in this work proposes &#039;The dance of a thousand demons&#039;. To protect the lady, the conquistador fights the demons. During the battle we can still hear the taunting laughter of the ghosts, represented by the glissandos on the rototoms. The work ends with the theme of the conquistador, who of course emerges as the winner.
